North Yorkshire Council have a national reputation for excellence, and we are looking for a Locality Team Manager with a variety of experience and skills. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Locality Team Manager to join our Disabled Children and Young People’s Service in Central North Yorkshire, which covers both the Hambleton and Richmond areas, and Selby area of the County.

About the Role

The role of Locality Team Manager is dynamic and diverse, requiring a confident, autonomous, highly articulate individual, to drive forward practice and influence stakeholders, partners and colleagues. We are looking for an innovative Social Work Professional with managerial experience who is driven, astute, inspirational and an effective communicator. As Locality Team Manager you will demonstrate transformative leadership in a challenging and evolving sector by shaping and driving the practice across the county and localities, articulating this practice into your teams.

You will be responsible for the management of the Social Workers, Trainee Social Workers and Assistant Team Manager in the team and their cases, which will include children and families receiving a service under section 17 Child in Need services, short breaks, children with disabilities looked after by the local authority and children at risk of significant harm. You will be responsible for the management of significant financial packages of support, ensuring that the service delivers within nationally defined regulations and standards. This will involve collaborating with health and education colleagues, jointly commissioning budgets where appropriate for short breaks.

Within your role you will be closely working with the other Locality Team Managers as part of a county wide management team to ensure consistency and high-quality practice. You will work collaboratively with colleagues from other teams within Children and Families Service, Inclusion, Occupational Therapy, schools, providers and with health colleagues to co-ordinate planning, support and funding of short breaks and care for children and their families.

To be successful you must:

  • Hold a relevant Qualification in Social Work
  • Be able to demonstrate substantial and relevant experience of working as a Social Worker preferably with disabled children and young people
  • Have management experience
  • Have extensive experience in children’s services, including involvement in cases with complex legal, professional and ethical issues including child protection and Care Proceedings.
  • Evidence of strategic planning skills and the ability to implement and embed plans effectively
