Would you like to be part of a service which protects and enhances the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors of North Yorkshire County? Are you ready to work in a busy front-line service and provide high quality customer care? We are currently looking for Regulatory Support Officers to join our Regulatory Support Team within Regulatory Services, specifically, the Environmental Health and Environmental Enforcement functions.

Our Service Environmental Health functions are delivered by two service areas, Environmental Protection and Farming, Food and Health. Environmental Protection is responsible for the investigation of statutory nuisance complaints, public health matters such as pest and drainage issues and public health funerals: the enforcement of private water supply legislation and the licensing and enforcement of standards at caravan sites. The service is also responsible for monitoring air quality, the inspection and permitting of industrial and commercial processes and the enforcement of the contaminated land regime. The Farming, Food and Health Services includes the enforcement of food hygiene and workplace health and safety legislation, infectious disease control and the registration of cosmetic procedures. Both services respond to Planning, Licensing and Safety Advisory Group consultations.

The Regulatory Support Team provides a hub for the Environmental Health and Environmental Enforcement services, providing a vital front line operational role dealing with a range of contacts from members of the public, other local authorities, agencies, government departments and professional bodies.

As a Regulatory Support Officer, you will:

  • Provide a specialist technical, operational and some administrative support to the services in a busy and varied environment.
  • Be an initial point of contact within the service for customers, triaging and dealing with complaints.
  • Undertake some operational/field work both independently and assisting other officers in the service, for example managing low-level cases, installation and retrieval of noise equipment, collection of pool samples and the collection and distribution of the network of diffusion tubes.

What you will bring:

  • Strong ICT and communication skills.
  • Experience in use of Microsoft products.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • High level of organisation, accuracy, and attention to detail with the ability to prioritise workload independently.
  • Knowledge of data protection and the need to maintain confidentiality when working with personal information.

Although knowledge of Environmental Health and/or delivery enforcement services in a local authority setting is very welcome, training will be provided. Training will take place predominantly in Northallerton. You must hold a current driving licence as there will be the need to travel to various locations but will primarily be based at either Selby, Harrogate, Northallerton or Richmond offices in North Yorkshire. This is not a home working role, and it is expected that successful candidates will attend their office base on a full-time basis.

When you join us, you are entitled to our outstanding benefits and wellbeing plan as part of your position. Our holiday entitlement starts at 28 days rising to 34 days per year after 5 years continuous service, plus public holidays. Up to 10 days extra leave can be purchased at any time.
