An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal Officer to join our Legal and Democratic Services team supporting our fee earners on a wide range of legal matters on behalf of North Yorkshire Council.
There is scope to work remotely from home or from another Council building some of the time in line with the Council’s Corporate Hybrid Working Policy.
Day to Day / Responsibilities
- As a Paralegal Officer to provide dedicated paralegal support to the fee earners in the corporate legal services team in Planning Property and Environment areas of work.
- The successful candidate will also provide paralegal support to the wider Paralegal team as and when required.
- Preparing and processing correspondence and documents
- Processing land registry searches, registration of leases and land charges.
- Ensuring an effective filing system is maintained and case management is up to date.
- Assistance with the preparation, collation, production and timely distribution of court bundles
- Written and telephone contact with clients, courts, suppliers and third parties in relation to case requirements.
- Making arrangements for a variety of meetings
- Drafting letters and court applications under supervision
- Carrying out legal research
This is a role where work is varied and challenges arise regularly as clients look to develop their own service offering.
About You
- Whilst it is preferable for applicants to have some knowledge or experience working in a legal environment or equivalent professional setting, it is not essential to have a legal qualification, as this role is primarily supporting our team of lawyers.
- The ideal candidate will have experience with prioritising and meeting deadlines, a good standard of organisational and people skills, excellent attention to detail and have a flexible, ‘can do’ attitude.

About the Service
Legal Services is part of Legal and Democratic Services (‘LDS’) within the Central Services Directorate of North Yorkshire Council who provide a range of services to the County of North Yorkshire.
The role of the Legal Service team is to support the provision by providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to the Directorates, the Council’s Executive, full Council, Committees and Members, and external clients.
We work on a portfolio basis, supporting the whole of the legal team as well as areas of particular specialism.
