About Personalised Learning College PLC is a county-wide, person‑centred programme supporting young people aged 16+ with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The Role

As an Advanced Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide excellent one‑to‑one and group supervision in a variety of educational opportunities.
  • Provide evidence of learner progress and achievement, ensuring the learner’s voice is central.
  • Champion person‑centred learning and ensure learners are supported to achieve their goals.
  • Safeguard and risk assess our vulnerable young people.
  • Undertake personal and intimate care.
  • Deal with medical needs of learners and the administration of medication.

  • Skilled and experienced in supporting young people with SEND.
  • Experienced in working with young people with EHCPs.
  • Organised, proactive, caring, and passionate about personalized learning.
  • Resilient and able to work in a high‑pressure, sometimes challenging environment.
  • Experienced in the use of sensory methods to ensure learners can access the curriculum.

Clearances and References

The post holder is required to have a satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance. To comply with Keeping Children Safe in Education and North Yorkshire Council’s recruitment policy, roles involving regulated activity require two satisfactory references: one reference must come from the current or most recent employer, and if the candidate has previously worked with children, a reference should also be obtained from that employer. All references must be signed by a senior person, typically the Headteacher or Chair of Governors.

Interview Process for Advanced Teaching Assistant Roles

Working Hours and Weeks

This role is term‑time only, covering 37 weeks per year:

  • 35 weeks are delivering face‑to‑face with learners in sessions.
  • 2 weeks are dedicated to specific training and development.

The contracted hours are 34.75 per week (pro rata), worked Monday to Friday, 08:45 am to 04:00 pm. In addition, there is one extra hour per week allocated for a staff meeting.
