The purpose of our Service is to provide quality, affordable, healthy, and sustainable homes that meet the present and future needs of all our tenants. The Housing Standards team is made up of five closely linked areas of housing expertise: construction, repairs, improvements, contract management, and safety. Each team consists of suitably qualified, skilled, and experienced trade operatives, surveyors, or contract supervisors.
As a team leader, you are fundamental to ensuring the successful delivery of the Housing Service. We are in a significant period of transformation; this role requires a proactive and pragmatic approach to ensure the council's housing assets meet current and future statutory and regulatory requirements. You will manage and motivate a locality-based trade Electrical team ensuring behavioural, quality, and safety standards are adhered to. The core focus of this job is to assist in the management of our housing electrical domestic installations, compliance, and repairs programme to help the Council achieve its service goals.
The job will require the successful applicant to manage a team of electrical trade-based staff, advise on electrical technical issues and standards, manage the compliance of works across the council housing stock and report to the council duty holder on all matters with the council's NICEIC registration’s delivery of new construction via a large programme.
What you will bring:
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical, C&G BSB2391 Inspection and Testing or equivalent, 18th Edition BS 7671, SMSTS, IOSH, and current best practices in social housing relating to tenant safety, decent homes standards along with a good solid knowledge and background in the construction industry.
- Experience in delivering quality housing repair works, a good understanding of electrical compliance, and the current requirements around the delivery of a successful programme.
- Excellent communication skills are a must, both written and oral, with the ability to problem solve and find pragmatic solutions.
- Tenant and stakeholder liaison are essential for this role, along with an empathetic attitude and good customer service skills.
- Experience in managing a team with the ability to effectively prioritise, plan and organise workloads to ensure deadlines and targets are met, manage change and deliver continuous improvement.
- Creativity and the attitude to learn new skills within this area of work are essential as this industry is constantly evolving.
