Matcham's is our in-house catering team here at Harrogate Convention Centre. We pride ourselves on quality produce and impeccable service and focus on supporting local suppliers and producers from the North of England, Yorkshire, and Harrogate. We cater to a variety of events and provide a range of services from a simple tea and coffee service to full-blown celebratory banquets. We are a friendly and driven team who put our customers at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for a motivated and skilled Chef to join our team at Matcham’s. As part of a dynamic kitchen team, you will work under the guidance of the Head Chef to produce high-quality, pre-determined dishes for large events. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the food meets both the quantity and quality requirements outlined in the operational plan, while adhering to health and safety regulations. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate chef to contribute to a variety of events and grow within a professional kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook food in line with the operational plan for events.
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meet HCC’s high standards.
  • Monitor food production and provide feedback to the Head Chef on food quality.
  • Supervise and guide kitchen assistants and agency staff as required.
  • Complete due diligence paperwork and ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Attend all briefings and follow directives given by the Head Chef.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to deliver food on time and to client specifications.
  • Report any equipment faults or health and safety hazards to the Head Chef.
  • Maintain a professional manner and positive communication with colleagues and clients.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience working as a chef in a professional kitchen.
  • Experience in high-volume food production.
  • Understanding of food safety management systems and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point).
  • Effective time-management skills.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
  • Capable of working independently and supervising others in a satellite kitchen.
  • Ability to work long hours on your feet.

Desirable:

  • Experience in event catering or running kitchens in the events sector.
  • Food Safety Level 2 qualification.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in catering.
  • COSHH certificate.

Other Requirements:

  • Able to work shift patterns, including early mornings and late evenings.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to uniform standards.
