We are looking for a suitably qualified Environmental Health Officer, who will support the development and operational delivery of the Farming, food and Health (Regulatory Services) team in the Central part of the county, covering the Harrogate area.

Our Service

Regulatory Services includes the Council’s Environmental Health Services, and some Trading Standards functions. Its purpose is to protect and enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the County and to protect the interests of legitimate businesses. This is achieved by providing advice and guidance and, where necessary, by enforcing relevant legislation to deliver the Council’s statutory and non-statutory functions of Regulatory Services.

The Role

As an Environmental Health Officer in Farming, Food and Health, you will protect the health of communities.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that food manufactured, prepared, exported, imported, and offered for sale in the County complies with hygiene, safety and standards by working with the food industry and taking action where necessary
  • Investigating cases/suspected cases and outbreaks of food poisoning and food borne disease
  • Investigating health and safety at work incidents in line with the NYC enforcement policy
  • Protecting the health and safety of residents by inspecting and registering cosmetic premises and practitioners.

What you will bring

We are looking for individuals who have experience of working within Environmental Health and of managing conflict and complaints informally and formally.

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will have a Degree in Environmental Health (BSc or MSc), be a qualified Environmental Health Officer registered by the Environmental Health Registration Board and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

  • Ability to carry out tasks in compliance with safe and consistent standards and to promote healthy and safe working practices.
