Whitby Harbour Authority operates its own excavator dredger, the 44m Split Hopper Barge, Sandsend.
The vessel operates in the ports of Whitby and Scarborough and occasionally operates on contract to dredge other ports around the UK coast.
The Harbour Authority are looking for a Temporary Chief Mate to cover a long term absence from the vessel with potential to become a permanent position in the future.
The role will support the Dredging Master and act as Second in Command in maintaining the safe operation of the vessel and its associated equipment & operations.
What you can bring
We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual with a relevant certificate of competency to act as Mate on a seagoing commercial vessel.
Please highlight in your supporting evidence that you have the supporting maritime qualifications necessary and an in-date ENG1.
You will ideally have experience of marine operations on a commercial/professional basis and possess a working knowledge of routine vessel and machinery maintenance.
The vessel has no accommodation; therefore, the role is predominantly day-time working (with flexibility required to suit tides); however, the position may require the successful applicant to undertake periods of external contractual dredging works for which additional, generous payments will be made.
These periods of working away are planned far in advance, with no planned work outside of home ports in the near future.
Dredging experience is desirable, not wholly essential, as full training will be provided.
The ability to operate an excavator is also desirable but again, not essential.
What can we offer you?
In addition to your salary, we offer a range of great benefits to help you financially and make life a bit easier.
These include:
- a local government pension scheme with 18.1% employer contribution
- salary sacrifice schemes
- employee discount benefits including shopping, supermarkets, gym discounts, and more!
- travel loans
- Health Assured – confidential help and support for your wellbeing
