Located in Helmsley, North Yorkshire (with hybrid working). The North York Moors National Park Authority helps to look after one of the most phenomenal parts of the British Isles. Filled with beautiful moorlands and fantastic woodland, the North York Moors is a unique area with a diversity of landscape and wildlife.
We are now looking for a Legal and Governance Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week.
The Benefits
- Salary of £30,519 - £33,699 per annum
- 25 days’ annual leave, rising annually by one day to 30 days after five years’ service, plus public holidays

The Role
As a Legal and Governance Officer, you will support the delivery of legal, governance and compliance functions to help us operate effectively and in line with statutory responsibilities. Specifically, you will assist with a wide range of legal and administrative activities, including processing contract matters, supporting Authority projects and providing assistance on planning, public rights of way and wider legal work. You will also help to maintain risk registers, support audit-related actions and ensure projects align with our governance framework.
Additionally, you will:
- Support the Authority Solicitor with planning, legal and constitutional matters
- Provide administrative support to the Monitoring Officer and Authority Members
- Support the production and monitoring of governance actions
All staff are expected to attend at least two days of internal volunteering each year. This can be joining any volunteering task, taking part in a supertask or going on one of the director training days.
About You
To be considered as a Legal and Governance Officer, you will need:
- Experience in legal administration
- Experience in governance administration
- Experience of risk management processes
- Experience working across a range of teams and providing advice
- Strong communication skills, with a good command of English
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- The ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines
- The ability to work independently
