Located in Helmsley, the North York Moors National Park Authority helps to care for one of the UK's most distinctive protected landscapes. Spanning 554 square miles, the National Park is home to expansive heather moorland, woodland, remote dales, historic villages and dramatic coastline, and plays an important role in supporting nature, communities and sustainable access for visitors.
We are now looking for an HR and Health & Safety Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Role
As an HR and Health & Safety Officer, you will provide a professional and proactive HR and Health & Safety service, supporting the effective day-to-day operation of people processes, whilst helping maintain a safe working environment across the Authority. In this dual role, you will spend approximately 60% of your time working on HR activities and the remaining 40% on Health & Safety. Taking ownership of key HR processes, you will provide first-line advice to managers, support policy development and help improve procedures, guidance and employee practices across the Authority. Supporting the delivery of our Health & Safety framework, you will maintain oversight of systems, records and documentation, working closely with managers to promote compliance, effective risk management and a positive Health & Safety culture across the organisation.
Additionally, you will:
- Support learning and development, wellbeing, and employee engagement initiatives
- Analyse HR data and identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement
- Monitor Health & Safety incidents, reporting activity and follow-up actions
- Monitor compliance with mandatory Health & Safety training requirements
- Support the development and implementation of HR and Health & Safety policies, procedures and guidance
About You
To be considered as an HR and Health & Safety Officer, you will need:
- Experience of working in an HR, Health & Safety or other compliance/operations support role
- Experience of supporting and improving administrative or operational processes
- Experience of maintaining accurate records, data and systems with attention to detail and confidentiality
- Experience of working with managers and colleagues to support consistent practice and resolve routine queries
- A sound understanding of core HR processes and good practice, including recruitment, onboarding, absence management and employee records
- A practical understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities in the workplace, including risk assessment, incident reporting and training records
- A CIPD Level 3 qualification, NEBOSH/IOSH qualification, or equivalent relevant experience in HR and/or Health & Safety
