Located in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, the North York Moors National Park Authority helps to look after one of the most phenomenal parts of the British Isles. Filled with beautiful moorlands and fantastic woodland, the North York Moors is a unique area with a diversity of landscape and wildlife. We are now looking for a GIS Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week.

This is an exciting opportunity for a GIS professional with strong experience in spatial data management, mapping and analysis to join our dedicated organisation. The Role
As a GIS Officer, you will act as the lead professional for GIS systems and spatial data, supporting mapping, database management and innovative geospatial solutions. You will provide expert technical support across GIS platforms, including Earthlight, QGIS and online mapping systems, while maintaining and developing spatial databases to ensure accuracy, integration and accessibility of data. Working closely with teams across the Authority, you will deliver training and support to staff, volunteers and students, helping to develop confidence in GIS systems and mobile GIS devices. Additionally, you will:
- Manage aerial photography, LIDAR and other spatial datasets
- Oversee the quality and publication of GIS datasets
- Lead compliance with the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement and liaise with Ordnance Survey
- Develop bespoke ICT systems to meet organisational requirements
- Ensure all work complies with GDPR, Health & Safety and equality standards
About You
To be considered as a GIS Officer, you will need:
- Experience applying GIS in professional contexts, including data management, mapping, and analysis
- Experience in SQL for querying (including spatial data), managing data, and reporting services
- A strong understanding of GIS, digital mapping, cartography, and spatial data analysis
- Effective communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Training in GIS software and spatial databases
