The North York Moors National Park Authority helps to care for one of the UK's most distinctive protected landscapes. Spanning 554 square miles, the National Park is home to expansive heather moorland, woodland, remote dales, historic villages and dramatic coastline, and plays an important role in supporting nature, communities and sustainable access for visitors.

We are now looking for a Caretaker to join us in Sutton Bank on a part-time basis, working 15 hours per week, for a fixed-term contract until November 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a practical individual with maintenance experience to join our respected organisation. You will have the chance to strengthen your practical maintenance and site management skills within one of the UK's most breathtaking landscapes, building valuable expertise in a varied and rewarding environment. With a lighter part-time schedule of just 15 hours per week, you will enjoy greater flexibility and breathing space outside of work, making this the ideal role for balancing other priorities alongside a fulfilling position within the National Park.

As Caretaker, you will help provide an efficient and cost-effective caretaking, cleaning and maintenance service across the Sutton Bank National Park Centre and its grounds. Working closely with the Centre Manager, Groundsperson and wider team, you will carry out cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs across the site, helping ensure buildings, public areas and facilities remain clean, safe and well maintained. You will also engage positively with visitors, contractors and volunteers, contributing to a welcoming environment while supporting grounds maintenance, site activities and the upkeep of equipment and facilities across the Centre.

  • Assist with grass cutting, litter clearance and the maintenance of signs and notices
  • Support contractors carrying out site maintenance and inspections
  • Carry out fire alarm testing support activities
  • Monitor waste and recycling arrangements across the site

To be considered as a Caretaker, you will need:

  • Practical experience in building maintenance, including decorating and minor repairs
  • Experience managing contractors and work programmes
  • Practical skills, including joinery skills
  • A full, valid driving licence
  • The ability to work occasional overtime, weekend shifts and out-of-hours callouts
