Located in Helmsley or Danby Lodge National Park Centre, the North York Moors National Park Authority helps to care for one of the UK’s most distinctive protected landscapes. Spanning 554 square miles, the National Park is home to expansive heather moorland, woodland, remote dales, historic villages and dramatic coastline, and plays an important role in supporting nature, communities and sustainable access for visitors.
We are now looking for an Engagement Officer to join us on a part-time, fixed term contract to 31 January 2028, working 22.5 hours per week across three days.

The Role
As an Engagement Officer, you will support programmes through our Natural Health Service Project that help people build confidence, improve wellbeing and connect with nature through walking, cycling and green social prescribing. You will work alongside colleagues to deliver 10 week green social prescribing interventions for adults experiencing poor mental and/or physical health, helping participants develop skills, confidence and greater independence in accessing green and blue spaces. Working with participants, communities and colleagues, you will help ensure activities are inclusive, accessible and shaped around local needs. Additionally, you will:
- Build trusted relationships with programme participants.
- Support walking and cycling programmes for children and young people.
- Contribute to the development and trialling of a children’s Nature Prescription.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with progress reports.
- Ensure activities comply with health and safety, equalities, safeguarding and GDPR requirements.
About You
- Experience developing and delivering outdoor activities which connect people with nature and promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
- Knowledge of the benefits of nature-based interventions for mental and physical health.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- The willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- At a minimum, five or more GCSEs (or equivalent) at 9-4 (A* to C), including English and Maths.
- A qualification in, or equivalent experience, of community work or leading health and wellbeing activities for adults and/or children.
- A full, valid driving licence.
