The College is seeking applications for a Software Developer to work with Glenturas Construction Ltd on a 2 year contract via a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). This role will involve designing, developing, deploying and embedding a new digital compliance and quality management platform within Glenturas Construction Ltd. The platform will digitise and streamline the management of certifications, training records, health & safety documentation and quality assurance documentation across multiple construction sites. The Associate will deliver a secure and scalable system with integrated workflows and automation to strengthen compliance management, improve reporting and audit readiness, and support structured access to compliance records for key stakeholders.

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a three-way project between a company (in this case Glenturas Construction Ltd), an academic institute (such as NWRC) and a graduate (known as an Associate), which enables the transfer of knowledge, technology and skills to which the company currently has no access. A KTP can help graduates to enhance their career prospects by providing them with an opportunity to manage a challenging project, which allows them to use their qualification, and is central to a company’s strategic development and long-term growth. Whilst the Associate leads the KTP project, they are supported by experienced staff from the company and the College. The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme and this project is funded by Innovate UK in partnership with Invest NI.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and co-ordinate the items of work as laid out in the KTP project plan, ensuring project milestones, deliverables and reporting requirements are met.
  • Undertake a structured review of Glenturas Construction Ltd's current (as-is) processes for compliance, quality management, and document control across office and site environments.
  • Gather and document user and operational requirements through engagement with key stakeholders including senior management, project managers, site managers, quality personnel, health & safety personnel, and administrative staff.
  • Define the functional and non-functional requirements for a digital compliance and quality management platform, including usability, scalability, security, data retention and audit-readiness.
  • Design an appropriate system architecture for a secure, scalable digital platform including database design, secure cloud hosting approach, authentication, role-based access control, and workflows.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Have at least a Level 5 qualification in Software Engineering, Computing, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Cyber Security, or a related discipline.
  • Have experience in software development, such as developing web-based systems, applications, or digital platforms.
  • Have experience of database design and data management (e.g. SQL databases, data modelling, or structured data systems).
  • Have one years employment experience in a software development / digital systems / IT role.
  • Have experience of developing systems involving secure access control, authentication, user permissions, or systems handling sensitive documentation.
  • Have experience of delivering systems involving workflow automation, document management, or digitisation of operational processes.
