About the Project John Holland, in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture), is delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This innovative project involves converting a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power facility—the first of its kind in the world. The project includes converting two mine pits into reservoirs and constructing underground infrastructure such as a large powerhouse cavern, waterway shafts, and tunnels to transfer water between reservoirs, generating power during peak periods and returning water during off-peak times. Funded by ARENA as part of its Advancing Renewables Program, this project is a gamechanger for the clean energy industry worldwide, introducing a new approach to large-scale energy storage. Responsibilities of the role Participate in scope of works planning, minimizing gaps, maximizing cost efficiencies, and considering subcontractor capabilities. Develop procurement strategies, including breaking down works into packages, identifying potential subcontractors, and planning procurement methods and timing. Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and stay informed about market conditions. Assess commercial and contractual risks, implement controls, and escalate issues as needed. Provide commercial support for self-perform works. Assist in dispute resolution processes when required. Maintain accurate cost forecasting for subcontracts and cost codes, and escalate issues promptly. Manage subcontracts through all phases: scope preparation, procurement, management, claims, variations, and closeout. Operate and maintain contract systems including Project Cost Reporting, Asset Registers, and Contract Sums. Ensure compliance with Building Code and report potential non-compliances. Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports on commercial performance. Assist with Head Contract administration as needed. Perform duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, and procedures. What we are looking for Experience as a Contracts Administrator in construction, preferably with tier 1 companies. Experience working on projects valued at $100m+. Proficiency in all stages of subcontract management: scope, procurement, cost forecasting, management, claims, and closeout. Strong commercial acumen, especially in cost management and contract law.
