Appointment of a part-time Supernumerary Minister [0.25 of a full ministerial appointment] 3 sessions

The Clitheroe Circuit is looking for a Supernumerary Presbyter Minister to join our circuit from January 2027 for one year initially, with the possibility of extension.

The post

carries delegated authorisation to work in and with the Church at Waddington (29) (two sessions) and some mission work (one session) at Trinity Church & Community Hub in Clitheroe, working alongside the Superintendent.

The supernumerary

will be required to work at Waddington on a Monday when there is a warm space meeting (every other week) and Tuesdays at Trinity warm hub (Oct – April). Be on the preaching plan once a month at Waddington. Any remaining time to be used for pastoral care and encouraging mission. The role will incorporate pastoral care, leading worship, and leadership within the churches, in consultation with the Superintendent and the Circuit Leadership Team.

The post-holder

will be accountable to the Superintendent and the Circuit Leadership Team. A member of the circuit will offer pastoral support.

The main responsibilities of the post include

• Leading worship once a month
• Working Monday and Tuesday to be part of the Church led activities
• Offering pastoral care to the members and encouraging gifts and abilities to be used
• Collaborating with the church and circuit safeguarding officers to ensure best practice
• To support mission and evangelism and enable circuit members to participate
• To continue to build links with church users, ecumenical partnerships and groups

Person specification

• The person appointed will be an ordained minister of the Methodist Church in Britain, or an ordained minister of another church who is willing to engage with the process for becoming a Recognised and Regarded minister
• The person will be enthusiastic and committed to collaborative style of ministry and be skilled in working with volunteers
• The person will have good leadership skills and an understanding and empathy for ministry in rural communities

Terms and Conditions

• The presbyter will offer three sessions per week, averaged out over a month
• The remuneration package will include a stipend at the current level, pro rata to the hours of the appointment, along with travel expenses and other costs as appropriate.
• The presbyter must have a current DBS check and Advanced safeguarding training or be willing to undertake this.
• The proportion of telephone and broadband charges and call costs to be reimbursed by the circuit must be agreed. Fees for weddings and funerals are to be offered on the same basis as to other ministers in the circuit.
• Holding a current driving licence (or being a keen cyclist!) is essential given the rural nature of the appointment.
• The presbyter will take leave in line with the standard arrangements as set out in CPD

Waddington Methodist Church (membership 29)The church is situated in the centre of a beautiful and popular rural village. A congregation of mature ages attends this prayerful and devoted fellowship. There is a weekly toddler group (Waddlers) run by volunteers. There is a weekly prayer group and a Warm Space offering for the community twice per month. The church hall is used as a facility by the people in the village, community and three uniformed groups and provides opportunities for outreach. A community warm space occurs twice a month. The WI use the hall monthly and there’s also a monthly Lunch Club and ‘Crafternoon’ group. Although the congregation number is small, they are not lacking in their spiritual enthusiasm and vision for outreach.

Trinity Methodist Church & Community Hub

A warm space meets Tuesdays 11:30 – 13:30pm Oct – April and serves around 50 people. There is a need for a ministry of presence and encouragement for the existing volunteers. There is an opportunity to contribute to the mission of making links with the many (90+) community room users.
