Dyfed Powys Police continues to introduce new apprenticeships across Police Staff departments as we look to attract talent from all ages and backgrounds. The variety of opportunities we have available includes:

  • Apprentice – Corporate Communications

Our apprenticeship scheme is open to individuals from the age of 16 who are positive and passionate about a career in public service. The programme runs for 24 months, during which time our apprentices will gain a vast amount of work experience within areas of our policing environment. Alongside this you will study a level 2 or 3 qualification relevant to the role.

Role Purpose

To support the Corporate Communications department to provide a professional and transparent media and public relations service, which actively promotes a positive image of the force and contributes to improved public trust and confidence.

Role Specific Tasks

  • Writing, proofing, and editing copy, under supervision, for various internal and external channels, including the force’s website, intranet, newsletters, and social media accounts.
  • Creating engaging and on‑brand social media and digital content for use across the force’s website, intranet, and social media accounts.
  • Supporting the creation of press releases, statements, and responses to media inquiries, releasing information in accordance with the force's media policy, media law, and College of Policing APP.
  • Monitoring press coverage relating to the force and assisting with generating internal communications to update senior leadership of key coverage.
  • Assisting with planning and execution of campaigns, events, and community engagement initiatives – includes being on‑site at times.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will be subject to vetting and medical checks. Candidates must have achieved Grades A‑C in Mathematics and English language GCSE (or equivalent level 2 qualification) and hold a certificate proving this.

Pay and Benefits

Apprentice hourly rate: £8 in Year 1; Year 2 rates depend on age: £12.71 (18‑20), £10.85 (21+), £8 (under 18). National Minimum Wage rates are applicable from 1 April 2026.
