We are looking for someone to join us as a Technical Officer within South Wales Police. Could you be who we are looking for?

About the team/Department you will be joining:

South Wales Police’s Organised Crime Unit targets Serious / Organised Crime across the force area. The successful applicant will form part of a skilled team who work flexible hours to deliver technical capabilities.

About the role and your key responsibilities:

We are looking for a technically minded, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual who already has a good technical grounding to become part of this specialist team to undertake sensitive and covert deployments utilising a range of authorised technical equipment in support of serious and organised crime investigations in South Wales. The role will include undertaking research and development into specialist technical hardware and software solutions with a view to delivering new technologies through to deployment. You will be expected to keep up to date with technological advances and identify technical opportunities to assist in intelligence and evidence gathering. You will develop, monitor and implement systems and procedures and the nature of this work is such that applicants must be able to demonstrate an extremely flexible approach to their work, work long hours at short notice and work in a time critical environment. There is an expectation that the role holder, once suitably trained, will be part of an on-call 24/7 rota currently one week in every three weeks, to support force priorities.

What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:

  • Do you have a GCSE, HND, HNC or equivalent qualification in a technical discipline and/or substantial experience in an audio/visual or telecommunications role?
  • Do you have a current working knowledge or experience of IT principles and working with IT based systems?
  • Do you have knowledge and expertise of common operating systems and applications?
  • Do you have knowledge of electrical and electronic principles?
  • Have you the ability to carry a considerable amount of heavy equipment over considerable distances?
  • Do you have an aptitude to develop new and diverse technical skills and abilities?

If you have answered yes to these questions, then this role could be for you. The successful Candidate must be willing to undergo vetting to MV/SC Vetting.
