North Tyneside Council is seeking to recruit qualified Health Visitors (SCPHN) to work within the Childrens Public Health Service (CPHS). Would you like to be part of an innovative skill mix team of health visitors, school nurses, public health staff nurses and child development practitioners? This is your chance to work with an outstanding group of safeguarding and health professionals. The service has close working relationships with the early help service, multiagency safeguarding hub (MASH), education, housing, primary care, midwifery services and sport and leisure which ensures good outcomes for families and provides positive working relationships for colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The Signs of Safety model is embedded throughout the service and robust safeguarding supervision is provided to colleagues by Safeguarding Nurse Advisors. North Tyneside Childrens Social Care was graded outstanding by Ofsted in 2024. Colleagues are provided with support and supervision from the Nurse Manager throughout their probationary period and beyond and have access to an identified preceptor. The post holder will be responsible to lead on the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme within the context of integrated prevention and early help locality teams. They will ensure universal contact is offered for the five nationally mandated reviews. Additional support and targeted interventions will be offered to those families where additional need is identified. CPHS colleagues use ParentLine, a confidential texting service as additional support for the families in North Tyneside. The service was reaccredited in March 2025 with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Award and is supported by a Specialist Infant Feeding Team.

Essential requirements of the post:

  • 1st level NMC registration / Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) qualification
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post

  • Takes part in and facilitates team meetings, team-based action learning and development days, contributing to a positive and supportive team culture.

Person Specification

Knowledge

  • A good understanding of the main risks to a child's welfare, development and safety, along with a developing knowledge about how to reduce those risks.
  • An applied understanding of issues of equality, diversity and cultural capability.

Experience

  • 3 years experience as a SCPHN (HV) or demonstrates the four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice as set out in the CPHS NTC Advanced Practice Framework.
  • Ability to engage positively with children, young people and families gaining their trust and confidence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to write coherent reports.
  • Ability to work together, in partnership with other professionals and agencies.
  • Ability to facilitate multi-disciplinary groups, including professionals meetings and core groups.
  • Ability to represent the Service and Council effectively in a range of multi-professional settings, including the Family Courts, Child Protection Conferences and Child in Care Reviews.
  • Ability to demonstrate calmness and resilience under pressure and to manage the stress of working with children subject to neglect and abuse.
  • Collect and interpret health data and develop and initiate strategies to promote and improve individual and community health and evaluate the outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable about and adheres to Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and to national and local policies.
  • Use of SystmOne.

Qualifications

  • Registered Health Visitor / Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner.
  • First level degree or equivalent.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
