Here at Newcastle City Council we have a real passion to improve the lives of residents and visitors in the city through the wide variety of essential public services we deliver and the relationships we influence. From our city leaders to every member of our team, we’re all committed to making Newcastle a city that is vibrant and thriving.

What the role will involve: As evidenced by the recent CIPFA financial management review, we are a highly performing finance team that provides excellent support to managers across the organisation and a highly regarded Internal Audit service supporting not only the Council but a range of other organisations across the North East. Our work is varied and fast paced, and you’ll be part of a busy but friendly team dedicated to achieving the best value for money for the Council.

Staff in Finance play a crucial role supporting elected Members and managers across the council to respond to the financial challenges we face and achieve vitally important service outcomes for residents and local businesses. We are doing this by streamlining our financial systems and processes to ensure they are as efficient as they can be so we can increasingly focus our efforts on providing expert advice and insight to help managers manage the financial resources they are responsible for.

Who are we looking for? We need highly skilled and professionally trained people to ensure we stay on top of the challenges we face, and to make the most of the opportunities that are emerging. We have an opportunity in our Financial Accounting team at Assistant Accountant level for a highly motivated individual. To be successful you will need excellent financial and communication skills, as well as a demonstrable ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
