We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our team here at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Major Trauma Centre Emergency Department based at Aintree. Applications are invited from highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals for exciting new positions in our department, subject to satisfactory review and appraisal. This post would suit an individual with previous Emergency Care experience. Applicants should have at least 6 months experience within the NHS in Emergency Medicine, full GMC registration with a license to practice is required. You will work on a rolling EWTD compliant full shift rota contributing to 24‑hour departmental cover, 7 days a week. Please note this vacancy may close early once sufficient applications have been received.
Main duties of the job:
- Patients coming into the department are referred by their GP to the on‑call team of the appropriate speciality and are seen by them in the Emergency Department if the medical assessment unit/surgical assessment units are full, or if these patients are unstable and require resuscitation.
- Patients referred by their GP for Emergency Department attention.
- Self‑referrals ("999" attendances or walk‑ins).
- Booked appointments through NHS 111.
- We see around 100,000 new attenders a year.

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.
Job responsibilities:
Our Trust provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services to patients in the Northwest of England. It is one of the UKs 22 Major Trauma Centres and offers tertiary referral services for a variety of onsite surgical specialties including Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, MFU and ENT Surgery. The Emergency Department has a long tradition of delivering excellent clinical outcomes, is committed to training and offers supervised teaching and personal career development for those trainees who wish to develop a career in Emergency Medicine. In addition, the department has strong links to Liverpool University. The department has an active academic team which has coordinated a number of national and international multi‑centre clinical trials, and the successful applicant will be encouraged to take part in research, service improvement and audit activity.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Relevant Medical Qualifications, Working towards full MCEM or equivalent (depending on experience), ALS/ATLS Providers.
- Registration: Full registration with the GMC.
- Clinical Experience: Successful completion of NHS Foundation Training, Experience of assessing and managing trauma in acute/ emergency settings, Further experience in Emergency Medicine beyond Foundation Year level.
- Teaching & Training Experience: Experience of teaching clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
- Research Experience: Understanding of research principles, Publications in peer review journals, Willingness to be involved in departmental research.
- Clinical Governance Experience: Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance.
- Audit Experience: Active audit interest demonstrated by at least one completed clinical audit in the last 12 months, Publication of audit results.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
