We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust clinical team as a clinical specialist Orthotist and as a clinical lead within Steeper Clinic private service. As a clinical specialist Orthotist, you will have a wide-ranging clinical caseload including complex treatments such as composite KAFOs, Scoliosis bracing, and involvement in MDT clinics within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a clinical lead in our private service, you will be directly involved in business development of the private service in the North of England, expanding our existing services, and engaging new referrers. Involvement in the development of best practice clinical guidelines, pathway development, and research/audit work will also feature in the clinical specialist role, offering an excellent opportunity to further develop your clinical career. As a senior member of the clinical team, you will take an active role in the training and development of our graduate and apprentice Orthotists.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a varied Orthotic clinical caseload
  • Work within MDT settings, including Endoscopic Assisted Craniosynostosis Surgery team
  • Provide clinical mentorship and coaching to developing Orthotists
  • Participate in research and audit activities
  • Develop clinical pathways and guidelines

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose: To provide high-quality orthotic care, demonstrating extensive knowledge and experience in specialized areas of practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provision of Cranial Moulding Helmets as part of Endoscopic Assisted Craniosynostosis Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals
  • Assist in Plagiocephaly private clinic
  • Cast, measure, fit, and deliver well-fitting orthoses, maintaining fit and mechanical integrity
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, maintaining professionalism and patient confidentiality
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, including audits and research
  • Interact with patients to assess orthotic needs and provide appropriate solutions
  • Manage a full patient caseload across all orthotic treatments
  • Accurately take measurements and produce orthoses with minimal remakes
  • Ensure orthoses are aligned for optimal gait and delivered within contracted timeframes
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, adhering to confidentiality and data protection standards
  • Assist in stock management and manufacturing instructions, supporting technicians
  • Stay updated with latest techniques and componentry
  • Adhere to health and safety policies in all work areas
  • Lead in prescribing and clinical governance activities, including audits and service improvements
  • Supervise P&O students and junior staff, supporting their development
  • Contribute to educational activities, including lectures and presentations
  • Demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and commitment to professional development

Additional responsibilities

Uphold quality management, health and safety, and HR policies, fostering a positive working environment and supporting company objectives. Maintain professional qualifications and participate in team meetings and company updates.
