We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Matron to join our Primary Care team at HMP Huntercombe, a Category C men’s prison located near Nuffield in Oxfordshire. In this role you will be expected to provide the highest standards of healthcare, balancing efficiency and quality, and to provide clinical leadership and cover management for the prison.
Job summary
- Hours: 37.5 hours (Monday‑Friday) 08:00am‑16:00pm, on call once a quarter.
- Salary: Annual salary up to £59,677 per annum, depending on experience.
Main duties of the job
- Provide day‑to‑day clinical and operational management of the primary care team within an integrated healthcare service, contributing to strategic direction.
- Support the team to conduct comprehensive assessments, communicate treatment options, and initiate supportive care plans with individuals on a 1‑2‑1 basis, working with the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Lead or contribute to clinical and consumer audits; report to the Head of Healthcare and ensure contractual service management.
- Model a culture of compassion, courage, and competence; provide challenge, support, and mentorship to staff, improving care quality.

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration
- Line management and student nurse mentorship experience
- Knowledge of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, evidence‑based practice, and national standards
Legal & compliance
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
- Additional vetting and security checks will be required.
- Disclosure and Barring Service Check Subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. DBS check required.
- UK Registration Applicants must hold current UK professional registration.
