This service manager post will provide the day to day operational leadership and management required for the day to day delivery of all services from pharmacy Stockton Quality Control Laboratory (SQCL).
SQCL is the largest NHS regional QC service delivering services across NENC but also to other parts of the UK. This includes to NHS and private customers.
The post holder will ideally have specialist knowledge in pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and will require operational expertise and extensive experience of delivery of technical and professional services.

Main duties of the job
Responsible for all operational aspects of services across the department, the post holder will monitor performance through agreed KPIs, ensure staff competence and development for robust delivery of all services, and ensure all risks to service are logged, mitigated and managed via trust governance systems and processes.
Leadership and management of a team will be the fundamental part of this role. Coupled with technical expertise this will be key in ensuring the service delivery is responsive, collaborative and transparent.

Job responsibilities
Working closely with the business and customer services leads and the quality lead will be essential, as will motivating and developing the senior management within the service as well as inspiring the whole QC team to develop and deliver a service fit for the current and future needs of all customers.

The Post holder will be an integral member of the Senior Management Team in Pharmacy ensuring the effective delivery of the Stockton Quality Control Laboratory Service.
Stockton Quality Control Laboratory is an MHRA inspected laboratory who provide a service to the North East and North Cumbria and Yorkshire regions, offering a comprehensive range of quality control services, including microbiology and specialist ventilation systems testing.
Our Laboratory is located at the University Hospital of North Tees and offers the latest technology, which enables us to provide our customers with the best quality services and information.
We are looking for a dynamic team player who is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Quality Control functions, including overseeing laboratory testing, ensuring a safe, effective and compliant service.
This role combines operational oversight, people management and continuous quality improvement to ensure the service meets strict quality requirements
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Technical. Relevant field Post graduate ideally.
- Management and leadership post grad
- General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Royal Society for Chemistry (RSC) Royal Society for Biology (RSB) Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
- Post registration qualification in relevant area or equivalent experience such as PTQA
- Qualification to master\βs level in relevant area of expertise or working towards.
Experience
- Extensive experience in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) / Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
- Significant experience of managing teams within a performance framework and dealing with workforce issues
- Experience in leading strategic change within complex systems
- Significant post qualification experience in the analytical techniques used in pharmaceutical quality control
- Experience of advising, assisting, mentoring and providing feedback to others to encourage and inspire the development of work related competencies and long-term career growth
- Significant experience in liaising with staff, personnel and union representatives in resolving grievance or disputes in the workplace. Undertaking sickness absence & disciplinary reviews
- Evidence of a range of publications (papers or posters) relevant to stage of career

Knowledge
- Proven track record of leadership, managing redesign and organisational change within Teams
- Specialist QC Professional requires detailed current knowledge of: MHRA Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, and the British and European pharmacopeial requirements for raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
- Knowledge of technical areas of pharmacy, including pharmaceutical manufacturing, procurement, auditing and unlicensed medicines
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
