North Tees and Hartlepool NHS FT and South Tees Hospitals NHS FT are collaborating to develop a Group Structure and a clinical strategy for the Tees valley.

A single pathology service, the Tees Valley Pathology Service (TVPS), is being developed, delivered by a hub and spoke model with hubs at James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) and University Hospital North Tees (UHNT).

The Microbiology processing hub is based at JCUH, providing a full range of services. Technical staff work flexibly across sites. Consultant teams collaborate to standardize SOPs and protocols, working from their base organizations to advise clinical teams across the catchment area.

Responsibilities include providing diagnostic and clinical microbiology advice, infection control services, and participating in departmental and Trust matters concerning infection control and clinical governance.

Share clinical responsibility for Microbiology, Serology, and Virology with the team. Participate in teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, postgraduate and undergraduate programs, clinical and laboratory audits, and CPD.
