North Star Academy Trust is a small multi-academy trust that was set up with the ambition to improve the SEND provision in the South West and provide as many young people as possible with a bespoke, specialist education that is tailored to each individual's needs. We are a small but growing Trust, currently consisting of 4 schools including both Primary and Secondary provisions and an alternative provision.

Are you looking for a new challenge? The opportunity to make a difference and enrich the lives of children with behaviour needs? We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Tutor to join our team to deliver across a range of vocational subjects through the BTEC Level 1 Introductory in Vocational Studies. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to teach functional skills English and Maths along with PSHE. We are looking for someone with the ability to teach 4 of the core units as well as delivering the construction and vehicle maintenance units. Ideally in the following areas:

  • Building a Simple Wall
  • Developing Plastering Skills
  • Developing Building Maintenance Skills
  • Providing a Valeting Service
  • Carrying Out Routine Service Tasks on a Motor Vehicle

You will be delivering to a small group of learners, but due to challenging needs and behaviours, you will be required to contribute to the management of learner behaviour displaying a high level of professionalism. At all times you will be committed to ensuring high expectations for behaviour and learning and demonstrating professional responsibility to promote the safeguarding and welfare of our learners.

The ideal candidate will have either a trade background or previous experience in teaching vocational subjects. You should be a hard-working individual that is willing to go above and beyond to help young learners achieve their potential. You must have the ability to establish and sustain expert teaching that meets the needs of all pupils and be passionate about the curriculum, ensuring all children access a broad, structured and personalised entitlement. You should have the highest expectations of learners who have been marginalised by education and be able to lead sessions that are well planned and well structured to engage learners in hands-on topics covering a wide range of abilities. Flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude to working in a structured environment are essential, along with effective communication skills with colleagues. Skills of empathy, listening, communication, and the ability to respond to unexpressed needs are also important. A willingness to undertake further training that will be offered is expected.

You will be part of an exciting and innovative development of a Primary and Secondary learning community, a dedicated team of staff who strive for excellence, a caring and inclusive ethos, and a school which has supportive Governors and Parents with high expectations of the school. We believe that every learner should have an equal opportunity to achieve a good education to help them become a good citizen when they leave school. This position can give great satisfaction by often reaching learners who are disengaged with education for a variety of different reasons.

You will be required to work 37 hours per week, term time only, including inset days (39 weeks per annum). Actual salary Β£30,968-Β£34,239 per annum. In return, we offer a competitive salary, pension, a supportive team, training and development, and the potential for career progression to the right person.
