We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic and committed assistant to join our engagement team in a safe, secure and welcoming environment. The position involves supporting the engagement team with responding to and de-escalating crisis situations as they arise, supporting pupils with their learning in the classroom, collaboratively developing personalised plans for pupils, recording and monitoring data.
This position would be suited to a candidate with a proven track record of pastoral care, youth work or school-based behaviour management experience. Students with SEMH needs can display challenging behaviour so exceptional behaviour management skills with the ability to be supportive are a must.
The successful applicants will:
- Tutor and support pupils who have complex SEN needs with a primary need of Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties
- Support children from a range of ages, backgrounds and abilities
- Effectively engage students in their studies
- Play a proactive and pastoral role in positive behaviour management as well as interacting with the young people during extra-curricular times, encouraging them to participate in the social and academic life of the school
- Be flexible, adaptable and have a positive attitude to working in a structured environment
- Effectively communicate with colleagues
- Have skills of empathy, listening, communication and the ability to respond to unexpressed needs
- Willingness to undertake the further training that will be offered
