The successful candidate will use their specialist knowledge, clinical expertise and professional experience to assess, plan and deliver personalised rehabilitation programmes that address clients' physical, cognitive, behavioural, functional and vocational needs.

The role offers the opportunity to work autonomously while being part of a supportive multidisciplinary network of specialist clinicians. Depending on the individual's experience and employment arrangement, the postholder may work as an employed OT or as a self-employed Associate OT.

In addition to managing their own caseload, the experienced Occupational Therapist will have the opportunity to supervise and support newly qualified Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants, contributing to their professional development, clinical confidence and learning.

Role Criteria

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who:

  • Is HCPC registered.
  • Has a minimum of 10 to 15 years' post-qualification experience, with significant experience in brain injury, neurological rehabilitation or a related specialist field.
  • Has experience working with individuals with complex neurological presentations.
  • Lives in the North East of England.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Is able to commit to a full time role.
  • Is interested in either an employed or self employed position.
  • Has the right to work in the UK.
  • Is confident working autonomously within a community based setting.
  • Has an interest in supporting the development and supervision of newly qualified Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants.

Key Responsibilities

As a Neurological Occupational Therapist, you will:

Provide Specialist Clinical Practice

  • Complete comprehensive occupational therapy assessments using appropriate clinical reasoning and contemporary outcome measures.
  • Develop and implement personalised rehabilitation programmes based on individual needs and goals.
  • Address physical, cognitive, behavioural, functional, psychological and vocational needs where appropriate.
  • Monitor outcomes and regularly review and adapt rehabilitation plans.
  • Support clients to maximise independence, participation and quality of life.
  • Work closely with clients, families, carers and other professionals to establish shared rehabilitation goals.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate appropriate referrals.
  • Ensure clients and their families are actively involved in decisions regarding their rehabilitation.

Manage a Caseload

  • Take responsibility for clients from initial assessment through treatment planning, intervention and review.
  • Manage your caseload effectively and work within agreed professional and organisational standards.
  • Work autonomously while maintaining appropriate communication with the wider clinical team.

Maintain High Professional Standards

  • Produce comprehensive clinical, progress and third-party reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records in accordance with HCPC and professional requirements.
  • Use electronic clinical management systems effectively.
  • Adhere to North Star Rehab, HCPC and RCOT standards, as well as relevant legal, regulatory and operational requirements.

Supervise and Develop Others

  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance and support to newly qualified Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Rehabilitation Assistants (RAs).
  • Support newly qualified OTs and RAs to develop their clinical reasoning, assessment and intervention skills.
  • Encourage reflective practice and professional development.
  • Contribute to a positive learning culture within the Occupational Therapy team.
  • Where appropriate, support the development of newly qualified OTs and RAs through case discussion, joint working and mentoring.
