The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced project support officer to join our Placemaking team. The Placemaking team are responsible for all aspects of delivering placemaking projects including the restoration of the Tropicana into a leading events venue. The Placemaking team helps create well-designed, vibrant and sustainable places where people want to live, work, visit and invest. The wider team consists of officers responsible for culture, placemaking and regeneration projects, stakeholder engagement, and communications. Together, they support the delivery of projects and initiatives that enhance the area. In this role, you will be required to undertake a number of diverse project activities in support of the Weston Placemaking Team and delivery of the Super Weston Placemaking Strategy and Improving Weston projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of key project documentation
  • Develop and maintain project monitoring systems
  • Maintain financial records and administer purchase orders and payments
  • Arrange, coordinate and support the delivery of project events, meetings and activities to support overall project outcome
  • Collate and edit documents and materials such as working papers, reports and presentations for project boards, Elected Members and other stakeholders as required.

This role is central to the successful delivery of the Placemaking Strategy including the Tropicana project. You will be at the heart of the project team and able to be involved in all aspects of the projects.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

Work Style

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated. This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

  • 2-3 days in the office
  • Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.

Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Placemaking and the delivery of projects, and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria

  • Administration and finance experience
  • Confident in the use of spreadsheets and other financial or project management systems
  • Good communication skills and ability to present information clearly and confidently
  • Good team player
  • Ability to work without close supervision but can recognise when to seek advice
  • Experience of project support

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the Placemaking sector
