The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Facilities Assistant to join our FM Team. The Campus Facilities Team are responsible for supporting the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the building. In this role, you will carry out minor repairs, set up and dismantle rooms for bookings, move furniture & equipment, assist staff, teachers, or community users.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working as part of a team, your hours will be worked on a shift basis and will include evenings and weekends.
- Answering radio calls and responding to emails from Campus staff relating to daily issues such as building faults, waste removal, room set ups.
- First line maintenance to include activities such as lamp replacements, unblocking toilets, putting up noticeboards and assembling furniture.
- Reporting of building faults via our Facilities Helpdesk and following up on tasks logged to ensure works have been completed in a timely manner.
- Carry out site safety checks and undertake porterage duties.
- Basic outdoor upkeep (litter picking, gritting paths).
- Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
- Support FM Team with ensuring compliance with Health & Safety Regs.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated. This role falls into the category of Fixed Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way: 4+ days in the office. Spends most or all of their time in the office, due to nature of the work but can be for reasons such as unsuitable home working conditions or a desire for separation of home and work life. The office remains a shared space with cultural encouragement for clear desk policies.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about customer service, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
- Work related experience: Experience of working in a similar environment or directly within schools or community buildings. Experience in building maintenance or DIY would be desirable but not essential.
- Personal skills: Must have excellent people skills and be able to work in a team or independently as needed. Able to interface with a range of personnel from community at various levels including children, adults and professionals.
- Special working conditions: Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel. Must be prepared to work evenings and weekends.
- Other: Satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure certificate (relevant applications and checks will be carried out before any job offer is confirmed).
