Our new Children & Young People’s plan was co-produced with the

energetic input of over 6,000 children across Somerset. So when we say

grow up in a safe, child-friendly county that supports them to be happy,

healthy and prepared for adulthood”, we’re confident they agree.

As a new organisation, Somerset Council is wholeheartedly committed to

doing things differently, and better – and we’re building a solid reputation

for delivery. One good example is our award-winning Homes and Horizons

model, designed to provide a stable home for our most complex children

and increase their life chances through better educational results and

improved mental health and wellbeing. We’ve also implemented a

successful and innovative community-based early help model called

Connect Somerset which supports the social care reforms agenda.

There’s always more to do, and we’re looking for an experienced, focused

commissioning professional to lead a self-improving service that’s set

itself the highest standards. Whether your career to date has been in

social care or education, you’ll have an extensive and sophisticated

knowledge of the commissioning landscape, and the courage and skillset

to lead this vital work from the front.
