We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Community Venues Officer to join our team. The Campus is a complex facility providing a range of services, mainly to the people of the Locking Castle area of Weston-super-Mare. It is essential that the postholder develops strong links with the community and is able to identify and recommend responses to changing needs.

In this role, you will help deliver a range of services from Sports and Leisure to Library and Conferences/Meeting Spaces to a wide variety of users and customers, over several venues in North Somerset. The post is part of the Library and Communities Team, which is in turn part of the Corporate Services directorate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take and control bookings, collect payments and keep comprehensive records of use, income and expenditure ensuring that the correct, Council approved, systems and procedures are adhered to.
  • Contribute to, implement and review a service plan for the community areas of The Campus, within the framework of an overall service plan for the site.
  • Become involved in the setting up and taking down of equipment as required and ensure that facilities are made ready for their programmed use.
  • Ensure that all relevant Health and Safety regulations are adhered to and a safe environment is provided for customers and staff.
  • Be aware of and understand the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy and ensure at all times that the duties of the post are carried out in accordance with the policy.
  • Be the main point of contact for all block bookers for all of the venues The Campus has responsibility for.
  • Meet current & new bookers at any of those venues.
  • Cover customer-facing staff as required.
  • At least once a week, travel to other venues to take delivery of stock, meet contractors and assist with bookings.
  • Build strong working relationships with bookers and cross-promote other venues and council services where possible.
  • Work closely with the Income & Resources Officer (Venues) post to ensure that the correct information is on our booking system.
  • Assist in the promotion of our bookers on our website and social media accounts.
Work Style

Work both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand. Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to undertake multi-discipline tasks and adapt to working demands quickly.
  • Knowledge of the services available within the council and partner agencies.
  • Knowledge of the local area.
  • Computer literate with good keyboard skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages.
  • Confident telephone manner and in dealing with individuals and groups on a face-to-face basis.
  • Ability to work individually without direct supervision.
  • Able to demonstrate courtesy, patience, diplomacy and tact in dealing with customers and colleagues.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of front-line delivery of Public services.
  • Experience of delivering a variety of activity programmes which deliver a good level of profit.
  • Ability to identify income opportunities and think of creative ways of achieving income.
