We currently have a fantastic opportunity to join North Somerset Children’s Services as we embark on our exciting journey with the setting up of our own children’s residential homes. We are opening our second new children’s home which will provide up to 3 beds for children/young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties aged 8-17 years. The home will provide medium to long term placements. This role will require you to register with Ofsted. We aim to provide a high-quality home placement based on a family‑based ethos and values supporting children and young people to feel safe, remain in their local area and fulfil their full potential. The home will have access to therapeutic input and support from a psychologist who will support managers and teams in terms of matching and contribute to the children’s care planning.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children’s Residential Home Manager to join our Children’s Care Team. The Children’s Care Team is responsible for providing warm, relational therapeutic care to our children and young people residing in our residential homes. In this role, you will develop and lead a passionate team of children’s home care staff to outstanding practice. Lead on delivering a positive learning and support culture and delivering the objectives of a residential children’s home using a therapeutic approach, whilst also ensuring that Ofsted requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • As the Registered Manager, you will support the Residential Lead and lead a team of staff ensuring that children and young people are well cared for and are making progress.
  • Be accountable for ensuring overall service delivery with responsibility for ensuring the home meets with the requirements.
  • Be accountable to Ofsted through inspections.
  • Be required to supervise staff, complete audits, develop the workforce and most of all ensuring that the children and young people in your care are paramount.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about ensuring children living within a residential care environment receive outstanding support and care with an emphasis on delivering family‑focused care that thrives on relational‑led practice with evidential positive outcomes for children.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven success as a Children’s Residential Home Manager/Deputy Manager.
  • Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma and required a therapeutic caring approach.
  • Understanding of the Children’s Home Regulations & Inspection Framework.
  • Experience of managing a team/supervising staff.
  • Experience of working with partners.
  • Completion of Level 5 in Leadership & Management (if not already achieved).
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience in a children’s home.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of setting up a new children’s home.
  • Experience of managing more than one children’s home at a time.
  • Required to be part of an on‑call rota and may provide cover for other homes.
  • Experience of managing and working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of Supported Lodgings provision of post‑16 care and transitions into adulthood.
  • Experience with supporting reunification and supporting children into fostering placements.
