The Role
Community Meals is a hot meals service offered by North Somerset Council for residents who have difficulty preparing and cooking hot meals. We are seeking a flexible driver who shares our passion for service. Community Meals drivers are more than just delivery persons; they often serve as the only contact our clients have during their day. Your duties include completing welfare checks, such as ensuring warmth during winter or sufficient drinks in warmer weather, and reporting concerns to the Business Support Team. The service operates 363 days a year, including weekends and Bank Holidays, except Christmas Day and New Year\’s Day. We have two kitchens: Castlewood Kitchen in Clevedon and Weston Kitchen in Worle. When using a Council vehicle, you will perform safety checks and report incidents as per North Somerset policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recognize and acknowledge daily work instructions, and prepare for operational deployment.
- Deliver community meals efficiently according to the journey plan, timetable, or delivery manifest, maintaining a person-focused approach.
- Conduct client welfare checks during each visit, report incidents, and communicate variances following council policies.
- When using a Council vehicle, position, collect, and return vehicles from designated locations.
- Maintain a valid driving license (minimum Category B) and submit it for routine review.
This position is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
