Oakham Medical Practice and Market Overton and Somerby Surgeries have a vacancy for an enthusiastic GP to join us on a salaried basis, for 4-6 sessions. This role will be based across Oakham Medical Practice and Market Overton & Somerby Surgeries. Applications are warmly welcomed from GPs at any stage in their career. We can provide a stable and supportive background for newly (or about to) qualified GPs and those in their first 5 years or equally the opportunity to grow and develop if you are ready for a new challenge.
Salary commensurate with experience plus GMC and defence union fees. 7 weeks annual leave and pro-rata study leave. Experienced practice mentor to support your development.

The role includes providing high quality clinical care through a mix of face to face and remote consultations, managing a varied patient caseload, and contributing to the ongoing care of individuals with both acute and long term conditions. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team, support continuity of care, and play an active part in improving patient outcomes and enhancing our practice services.
About us
Oakham Medical Practice is based in a thriving market town in the beautiful county of Rutland. The Practices serve 20,000+ patients and provides medical cover for the local public school in Oakham. Market Overton is a picturesque village in the North of Rutland with a branch surgery in the village of Somerby just across the border in Leicestershire. We are a busy rural dispensing practice with dispensaries at both sites. We are part of Rutland Health PCN and work collaboratively and effectively with our local partners in general practice, the community and social care.
Job responsibilities
The General Practitioner will provide high quality, patient centred clinical care within our Practice. This includes undertaking a mix of face to face, telephone, and online consultations, assessing and managing acute, chronic, and complex presentations, and providing continuity of care for patients of all ages. The postholder will be responsible for clinical decision making, prescribing safely, maintaining accurate clinical records, and adhering to current evidence based guidelines. They will contribute to the management of long term conditions, safeguarding, health promotion, and the delivery of QOF and other contractual requirements. The GP will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team, take part in clinical meetings, and support the ongoing development and improvement of practice services.
Person Specification
- Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
- Inclusion on (or eligible for) the NHS England Medical Performers List
- Ability to assess, diagnose and manage a broad range of conditions autonomously
- Commitment to high standards of patient care and professional conduct
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
- Understanding of QOF, safeguarding responsibilities, clinical governance, and NHS primary care processes
