We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Research Nurse to join our Primary Care Network (PCN). As a Research Nurse, you will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the delivery of clinical research studies across the North Riding PCN made up of 4 GP Practices covering over 40,000 patients.

- Ampleforth and Hovingham Surgeries
You will be responsible for liaising with GP clinical leads, clinical investigators, sponsor companies and external vendors to manage trial protocols. At all times you will be expected to deliver high quality research ensuring participant safety and welfare. The nature of the work can be unpredictable, and you will be expected to be flexible and responsive to manage various aspects of the job as they come up (e.g. new trial opportunities).
Main duties of the job
- Be the main point of contact for all PCN Research enquiries, opportunities and proposals.
- To maintain and build upon the PCNs clinical research profile through identifying and pro-actively promoting appropriate research opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all study protocols and study supporting documents.
- Identify and recruit patients in accordance with study protocols and agreed targets and timelines.
- Screen participants eligibility and provide information to facilitate effective informed consent or assent.
- Ensure clear and accurate records and documentation to support and record all research activity using databases, software and electronic health care records as required.
- Work collaboratively with data managers and clinical research leads to ensure timely resolution of data queries.
- Maintain Investigator Site Files and develop and utilise trackers and spreadsheet tools to support study delivery to timelines.
- Participate in audits and inspections as required and support and execute all activities in line with ISO standards where relevant.
- Be responsible for completing mandatory training, participating in own personal development, identifying own learning needs and educational opportunities.
About us
NorthRiding Primary Care Network was founded in 2019 and has four member practices. We are located on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and our member practices are Ayton and Snainton Medical Practice, Ampleforth and Hovingham Surgeries, Derwent Practice and Sherburn and Rillington Medical Practice. We provide care to an overall patient population of 39,000. Each member practice has a CQC rating of good in all areas and 3 out of the 4 practices are rural dispensing practices. Our aim is to deliver high quality services for our patients, facilitated by working collaboratively, to better respond to the needs of our local population. Essential Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience working in Primary Care and Clinical Research.
- Registered Nurse NMC Level 1 that has effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work flexibly.
- Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and concise manner, and the ability to work autonomously and as a team player.
- High level of accuracy and demonstrable IT skills.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and be highly motivated with the ability to organise own work and meet deadlines.
- Presentation skills, venepuncture proficiency and experience in obtaining informed consent.
As a skilled communicator, the successful candidate must also possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills and be able to act as an ambassador for promoting research utilisation and best practice. The location of the role is flexible across the PCN depending on the successful candidate and some remote working may also be required. However, the ability to travel independently will also be important when supporting the surgeries and liaising with research leads.
Hours of work: 16 - 20 hours a week.
Salary Range: Band 5 - 6 depending on experience.

Experience
- Experience working in primary care, community health, or clinical research settings.
- Experience in patient recruitment, consent, and data collection.
- Experience delivering clinical assessments and procedures in line with protocols.
- Experience working independently and managing own workload.
- Change management and ability to support patients to change lifestyle through awareness of health promotion strategies.
- Experience in setting up and implementing research contracts, studies and or evaluations.
- Experience working across multiple GP practices or sites.
Qualifications
- Current professional registration, this could be HCPC or NMC.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Nursing or relevant health discipline.
- Minimum 2 years post registration experience.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Experience of working as a Research Nurse.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- A detailed working knowledge of SystmOne, searches and coding.
- IT skills, including recording accurate written/electronic data and documents to support clinical care.
- Understanding of safeguarding, information governance, ethics and informed consent.
- Ability to be autonomous, prioritise own workload and meet required timescales.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with patients, carers and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a busy primary care environment.
- Interest in developing a career in clinical research.
- Enthusiastic about evidence-based practice and service improvement.
