North Preston Medical Practice is looking to add an enthusiastic and patient-focused General Practitioner to join its expanding clinical team. You will benefit from a competitive salary, 6 weeks annual leave pro rata, CPD, NHS pension scheme, plus other benefits.

Main duties of the job

You will manage patients with a wide range of needs and ensure we maintain a high-level, organised system to support those patients. As a senior clinician you will be expected to lead on certain areas and set an example to other members of the wider team.

About us

Based in the North-West area of Preston over 2 sites, we are a teaching practice with a patient list size of over 11,500+ patients. We are an organised practice with a great team ethic and we have received commendations for how we support our medical students, FY2 and GPST doctors. We use EMIS Web clinical system and full training can be given where necessary. We have regular clinical and educational team meetings and protected learning sessions with the whole practice team.

Our team currently consists of 5 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 1 Advanced Care Practitioner, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 Nurse Associate, 3 HCAs, 1 Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technicians, Administration Staff and a strong Management Team. Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration.
  • Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate).
  • General practice (Vocational Training Scheme) trained.
  • On a medical performers list.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • UK driving license.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • UK work permit (if required).
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
