The Lead Programme Technical Engineer is responsible for owning and delivering all aspects of technical solution delivery for North Public Services key customers. The Lead Programme Engineer plays a key role in delivering the company’s safety and security technology solutions and services working with North Technical Consultants & Design Authorities to ensure customer objectives are met and exceeded on both projects and service delivery.
Their primary objective is to ensure that projects are completed efficiently, in compliance with the technical specification, within budget, and according to specified deadlines, overseeing all aspects of project engineering works, server and infrastructure mobilisation and maintenance, triage of all service tickets, management of the day-to-day field service engineering to ensure efficient resolution to faults and service requirements, and serve as the main technical point of contact for stakeholders and team members.
This role will report to the Programme Manager and include a programme of training and development to assist the individual as required, but also with a view to future progression and succession planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Project Planning & Delivery
- Collaborate with customers and North teams to deliver solutions that address business challenges.
- Define and deliver project scope, objectives, plans, timelines, and deliverables with stakeholders.
- Identify and coordinate required resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Lead project kick-off activities, ensuring clear communication of objectives, roles, and responsibilities.
- Oversee technical installation, system programming, commissioning, and customer training.
- Service Delivery
- Ensure customer infrastructure is maintained through effective patching, updates, and ongoing support.
- Manage fault triage processes, coordinating timely attendance and resolution by Field Service Engineers.
- Oversee engineer performance to ensure efficient and cost-effective maintenance of customer assets.
- Support ongoing technical training and development of Field Service Engineers.
- Resource & Risk Management
- Allocate and manage resources to ensure projects and services are delivered on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with Programme, Project, and Resource Managers to secure required personnel.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, implementing contingency plans where required.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Act as the primary technical contact for project and service-related activities.
- Maintain effective communication between customers, stakeholders, and delivery teams.
- Provide regular progress updates, status reports, and briefings to stakeholders and senior management.
- Quality, Budget & Change Control
- Ensure deliverables meet agreed quality standards through regular reviews and audits.
- Support budget management, cost forecasting, and identification of cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage scope, schedule, and requirement changes through formal change control processes.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership and direction to project and service teams, promoting collaboration and accountability.
- Set clear objectives and support team members in achieving project and service goals.
- Encourage continuous improvement and professional development.
- Project Close-Out
- Ensure successful project completion, stakeholder sign-off, and delivery of all agreed outputs.
- Conduct lessons learned reviews and capture best practices for future projects.
- Site Management & Health & Safety
- Support effective site management, ensuring safe and productive working environments.
- Enforce health and safety requirements, including RAMS, site-specific plans, and compliance standards.
- Manage site logistics, temporary works, inspections, and audits, addressing any issues promptly.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ideally qualified to diploma level.
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure, including firewalls, core, distribution, and edge switches supporting integrated security solutions.
- Experience with virtual environments such as Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware.
- Proven expertise delivering complex integrated security solutions, including Gallagher, Genetec, Lenel, Veracity, and Milestone.
- Experienced with enterprise-grade VMS and Access Control platforms, particularly Genetec and Milestone, and integrating multiple systems into a single management platform.
- Demonstrated success delivering technical projects of varying size and complexity.
Skills & Knowledge
