North Northamptonshire is on an exciting journey to transform its buildings and infrastructure, and we are looking for a Construction Project Manager to join our Capital Projects team. You will be responsible for the delivery of a suite of capital construction projects or a programme of works that range from £25k to £25M. The role includes developing project briefs with internal and external stakeholders (funders, services and end users), which are then taken through design, specification, delivery and completion. You will lead construction projects either by directly delivering smaller projects (procurement and management of contractors) or by managing external design teams and delivery teams for larger projects. These projects will be based across North Northamptonshire and will require site meetings or office meetings on average 2 days a week. The role involves working on multiple projects at one time to deliver construction projects across the council for education, children’s services, leisure, assets and communities.
What will you be doing?
- Construction Project Management – either directly delivering projects or managing the delivery of projects from brief through design and through to delivery.
- Developing Project Briefs – understand and interpret the council’s vision for its strategic estate, particularly in the education, children’s services, leisure, communities and service areas, to develop project briefs and scope.
- Stakeholder Management – develop effective relationships with stakeholders and partners internal and external to the council.
- Risk & Issue Management – develop, manage and monitor the project risk and issues register, ensuring risks are costed and mitigated to the lowest acceptable level.
- Finance – cost planning, developing business cases, responsibility and accountability for managing the project budget, maximizing value for money including value engineering.
- Procurement – identifying, procuring and awarding contracts for professional services, surveys, design teams and contractors.
- Leadership – motivating and managing project teams and working groups to deliver the project outcome, developing relationships to overcome challenges and progress projects effectively.
About You
The successful candidate will be agile and flexible to adapt to changing parameters during delivery. The role is primarily remote working, with attendance on site and at team meetings as needed (approximately 2 days per week). You will be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience and possess a relevant project management qualification or equivalent, with knowledge and experience of managing multiple and complex projects. Experience in managing construction-related projects of varying financial levels, performance management and providing feedback to design teams and principal contractors is essential. Local authority experience is key, particularly for governance, approvals and procurement processes.
