About The Role
Do you want to make a real difference to older and more vulnerable residents, helping them live safely, independently and confidently in their homes? This is your chance to join North Northamptonshire Council’s Housing Management Service at a time of real change and investment. We are reshaping our services to be more visible, proactive and closer to tenants – and our sheltered housing team is at the heart of this transformation.
As a Sheltered Services Officer, you will work directly with residents in our schemes, providing support, reassurance and practical help to ensure they feel safe, connected and able to thrive. You’ll be a familiar, friendly face that residents can rely on – and you’ll play a key role in building strong communities within our schemes.

What You Will Be Doing
You’ll be responsible for ensuring our sheltered housing schemes are safe, welcoming and supportive environments. Your work will include:
- Being a visible and approachable presence within schemes, building trusted relationships with residents.
- Supporting residents to maintain their independence, while ensuring their wellbeing and safety.
- Responding to issues quickly – from repairs and health & safety concerns to safeguarding alerts.
- Carring out regular checks on schemes, communal areas and individual residents where appropriate.
- Helping to organise activities and events that reduce isolation and strengthen community spirit.
- Working with Neighbourhood Housing Officers, caretakers, health professionals and support services to provide a joined‑up service.
- Promoting tenant engagement, ensuring sheltered residents have a strong voice in shaping services.
- Responding to emergencies as part of an on‑call rota.
About You

- A genuine commitment to helping residents feel safe, connected and part of a thriving community.
- A driving licence and access to a car is essential.
Although the role is working Monday to Friday, the service covers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and you will be required to cover weekends, bank holidays and on calls (8pm – 8am) on a rolling rota. An additional payment is made for these.
Example of working hours are:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am - 1pm
- Wednesday 11am - 3pm
