If you are an ambitious Chartered Surveyor looking for your next challenge, we'd love to hear from you. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Principal Disposals Surveyor to join our Estates Team within the Place Directorate. This key role is responsible for delivering capital receipts through the disposal of surplus land and property while providing expert asset management and surveying advice across the Council's corporate property portfolio. You will join a supportive and professional team delivering high‑profile property projects that help shape communities and support the Council's priorities. You will have the autonomy to make a real impact.
Responsibilities
- Lead on a diverse and challenging caseload involving the disposal, acquisition and management of land and property assets.
- Deliver capital receipts and provide recommendations on disposal strategies and terms, contributing to funding the Council's capital programme and ensuring the best use of the corporate estate.
- Lead complex negotiations for the disposal of land and property, including larger mixed‑use and residential development schemes.
- Manage higher‑value asset management cases, including rent reviews, lease renewals and landlord and tenant matters.
- Acquire land and property to support future service needs and corporate objectives.
- Negotiate leasehold acquisitions and disposals, licences, easements and wayleaves.
- Provide expert property advice and recommendations to Council services and senior stakeholders.
- Prepare reports for senior management, committees and decision‑makers.
- Work with developers, agents, solicitors and external consultants to achieve successful outcomes.
- Support the Council's asset valuation programme and wider estate review activities.
- Identify opportunities to maximise value from the estate while supporting wider corporate priorities, including the Council's Carbon Neutral2050 ambitions.

Qualifications
- You will be a Chartered Surveyor with significant experience in land and property disposals, acquisitions and asset management, including larger housing and mixed‑use development schemes.
- You will be confident managing complex negotiations and building strong relationships with developers, agents, solicitors and stakeholders.
- You will be an excellent communicator with strong negotiation and influencing skills, capable of producing clear reports and presenting recommendations to senior leaders and committees.
- You will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver results within challenging timescales while contributing positively to a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- You will enjoy variety and be able to manage a broad portfolio of casework, from the disposal of strategic development sites and mixed‑use schemes to the acquisition of land and property for service needs, landlord and tenant matters, and responding to enquiries from Council services.
