This is your chance to join North Northamptonshire Council’s Housing Management Service as a Caretaker at a time of real change and investment. We’re reshaping our service to be more visible, proactive and closer to tenants than ever before – and Caretakers are at the very heart of this transformation.
As a Caretaker, you’ll be out on our estates, ensuring communal areas are well maintained, safe and welcoming for all residents. You’ll work closely with Neighbourhood Housing Officers, tenants and local communities to create neighbourhoods people are proud to live in.
You must be able to drive a transit sized van and have a current clean driving licence.
You will be part of a service that is:
- Visible and connected – smaller patches, stronger links with tenants and communities.
- Cleaner and safer – more caretakers making a real impact on estates.
- Supportive and responsive – tackling issues quickly and preventing problems from escalating.
- Engaged and accountable – giving tenants a stronger voice in how their estates are managed.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be a visible presence in communities, helping create safer, stronger and better-maintained neighbourhoods.
What will you be doing?
You’ll play a key role in keeping our estates and communal spaces safe, clean and well cared for. Your work will include:
- Carrying out regular inspections of estates, blocks and communal areas.
- Keeping shared spaces such as stairwells, bin stores and walkways clean, safe and presentable.
- Spotting issues early and reporting repairs, hazards and health & safety concerns quickly.
- Undertaking grounds maintenance tasks.
- Acting as a visible and approachable presence on estates, helping deter anti-social activities.
- Working alongside Neighbourhood Housing Officers to tackle estate-based issues such as fly-tipping or vandalism.
- Taking pride in your work and making sure tenants can see and feel the difference you make.
About you
We want practical, motivated people who take pride in their work and care about creating safer, stronger communities.
What will you bring to the role:
- Passion, Resilience, Innovation, Drive and Energy – with a commitment to Working Together to Achieve Success.
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to carry out practical tasks to a high standard.
- A friendly, approachable manner and the confidence to talk to tenants and colleagues.
- An eye for detail, spotting issues before they become bigger problems.
- Reliability, resilience, and the ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-looking housing service and be part of a team that is transforming estates into cleaner, safer and more welcoming places to live.
