About The Role
Working as a Building Surveyor for North Northamptonshire Council, one day will not be the same… delivering services across the area for non‑domestic properties such as Care centres, Libraries, Offices and land.
Working as part of the operations team, you will make recommendations and budget forecasts to support maintenance and development decisions and provide technical advice to the Principal Surveyor. You will also be responsible for ensuring contractors carry out works safely and securely.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Collation and analysis of information for the Asset Management Plan Register
- Provide professional technical support within Assets and Environment and the wider council services
- Monitor and ensure contractors’ standard of work complies with instructions and specifications
- Appraise, analyse and identify potential problems, propose technical solutions, prepare specifications with supporting budget forecasts for funding bids and works
- Liaise with and direct external consultants to carry out detailed technical briefings and review scheme proposals to ensure that council policies and objectives are met
- Provide a high level of technical / professional advice to all Property Asset Management colleagues and service users
- Act as designated authority for approving appropriate expenditure
About You
- Degree in Building construction or equivalent is desirable but not essential
- Higher level nationally recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH/IOSH)
- GCSE education or equivalent
- Experience with the FM/Construction Industry
- Knowledge of CDM regulations
- Considerable experience and understanding of Buildings and their construction as well as wider asset management (e.g. flood defences)
- Project Management experience
- Experience of conducting stock conditional surveys
- Health and safety legislation and building regulations compliance
- Evidence of supervising contracts for building works, preparing specifications, administering payments, variations, defects and completion certificates
- Well developed communication and negotiation skills
- Able to proactively manage own workload and work as part of a team
