We are looking for a proactive and technically minded Technical Officer to join our Building Control team on a 2‑year fixed‑term contract. In this varied and rewarding role, you will support the Senior Technical Officer in delivering high‑quality technical and administrative support across all areas of the Building Control service, including the Building Safety Levy. You’ll work closely with Building Control Surveyors, providing both administrative and technical assistance, including interpreting the need for applications and handling enquiries from members of the public, agents and solicitors.

The role also includes training new staff on back‑office systems, supporting software upgrades, ensuring accurate FOI responses, and keeping up to date with changing legislation and best practice. You will play an important part in helping to develop and improve systems and processes, contributing to the delivery of an efficient, customer‑focused Building Control service.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical understanding with excellent communication and administrative skills. You’ll have a solid knowledge of Building Control legislation (including fee regulations), be confident interpreting documentation, and have experience dealing with public enquiries across a range of formats. You should be educated to A‑Level or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), with good IT literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office. Experience with systems such as Uniform and GIS mapping would be beneficial, though not essential. Accuracy and attention to detail are vital, as is the ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and maintain confidentiality. You’ll be a team player who is tactful, diplomatic, and able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

If you are organised, customer‑focused, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to a dedicated Building Control team, we’d love to hear from you.

Benefits:

  • Employee assistance program
  • Discounts portal
  • Salary sacrifice schemes (bikes, home electricals and EV car leasing – available after completion of probation period)
  • Good work‑life balance, with many roles following our hybrid approach to work (requiring a stable and reliable internet connection)
  • 25 days' holiday per year, plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years' service (assuming the role is full‑time)
  • Access to an excellent local government pension scheme based on your local authority career average earnings
