Job Advert Position: Singing Tutor, Make Music Adults
Session: Love Your Voice

Reports to: Senior Programme Leader
Location: Gateshead
Working hours: Weekly sessions on Wednesdays 8–9.30pm, term time (10‑week term)
Salary: SCP 50 including planning and preparation (£27.94 per hour / £47.47 per session). Freelance applications may also be considered at an equivalent rate (less employer on costs). State if this is your preference in your application.
About The Glasshouse International Centre for Music: We’re a place where rock legends, pop icons, folk trios and opera singers, and youth choirs and tambourine‑shaking toddlers all share the same stages. We provide performances, concerts and classes in our venue at Gateshead Quays, communities across the North East, live‑streamed performances and digital lessons. You will be part of a team that brings music to 2 million people.
Love Your Voice: Learn to love your voice and become the best singer you can be. Discover your vocal range, improve vocal quality, and learn how to sing in parts by ear and from sheet music across a wide-ranging mix of repertoire. Suitable for beginners and more experienced singers looking to develop confidence, stamina and musical literacy. We are looking for a leader to run weekly sessions, help singers build confidence and develop their singing skills, with an inclusive and supportive approach.

Key Requirements:
- Singing and/or singing leading at a professional level.
- Leading groups of adults of varying abilities and from diverse backgrounds, including those with Additional Needs and/or Disabilities.
- Leading with focus on personal, social and musical outcomes.
- Using a wide range of approaches and pedagogies in music learning.
- Developing and using inclusive music practices and pedagogy.
- Creating music resources to support activities and performances.
- Excellent organisational skills, including excellent written communication skills, including creation of music teaching materials.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
Skills and knowledge:
- Safeguarding in education contexts.
- Community music and musical inclusion.
- The social and personal reasons why people experience barriers to learning.
- The historical origins and social context of the music being used.
- Current policy and plans related to musical inclusion and music education.
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Plans: Keep up to date with The Glasshouse policies and plans. Maintain an understanding of adults and their barriers.
Evaluation and Reporting: Contribute to evaluation and monitoring of programme performance as required. Support and contribute to consultation with adults as required.
Programme (artistic): Keep up to date with current developments in performance practice, specialist education and learning practice. Develop and lead high‑quality inclusive music learning activities, performances, events, rehearsals, recordings and resources as agreed. Support the development of excellent and inclusive music practice, social and musical pedagogies within Make Music Adult. Work with colleagues to remove barriers to engagement and ensure activities meet a range of needs, interests, and contexts. Attend and/or lead performances, events and programme activities as required.
Programme (operational): Attend team and organisational meetings as agreed. Understand and work in line with operational handbooks and guidelines.
Marketing and Communications: Work with the Senior Programme Leader to support effective recruitment of participant musicians.
Health and Safety and Safeguarding: Accept responsibility for Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Dignity at Work and other policies with the Trust.
General: Advocate for North Music Trust and specifically the Make Music programme. Undertake other duties appropriate to the post and in line with the needs of the organisation.
