We are seeking three motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Highway Project Delivery team as Apprentice Engineers. This career‑grade opportunity starts at Grade 2 and progresses through Grade 4 as you develop your skills, experience and qualifications. You will support the delivery of a diverse highways programme, including highway maintenance and improvement schemes, integrated transport and active travel, bridges, drainage and flood risk management.
Responsibilities
- Assist with site surveys, inspections and data collection
- Support the production of engineering drawings using AutoCAD and GIS
- Help prepare contract documentation, reports and technical information
- Maintain project records and respond to public enquiries
- Support scheme design, costing and delivery activities as experience grows
- Contribute to project delivery, safety audits and asset management work as you progress
- Follow a structured apprenticeship and development pathway with progression to higher grades
- Support the achievement of professional qualifications and build a career in highways engineering
- Gain experience across a diverse and high‑value capital programme
- Work in a mix of office and site activities (approximately 60% office / 40% site)
Qualifications
- 4 GCSEs (including Maths, English and Science) at Level 4 or equivalent (or predicted to achieve)
- Strong interest in civil engineering, highways or construction
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to use IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Office; CAD desirable)
- Willingness to learn and work towards relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 3, HNC/HND)
- Proactive approach with the ability to solve problems and manage time effectively
