The Vacancy

Following retirement, The Street Cleansing team are seeking a Community Operative on a permanent basis. This is a front-facing service role where we are looking for an individual who cares about their community and takes pride in their work, striving to go the extra mile, with a can-do, positive attitude to problem solving. We particularly welcome applications from the BAME community.

Your primary duty will be based within our town centre ensuring our community bins are maintained. In addition, you will take a proactive approach to maintaining our 10-foots, litter picking, clearing dog fouling, and responding to customer reports.

Part of this role will be to work cross-department, and therefore on occasion you will also be treating weeds, grass cutting, and supporting in the maintenance of our parks and operational highways.

This role is physically demanding, involves heavy lifting, walking considerable distances, and working in all weather conditions whilst operating plant machinery on the highway.

Due to the nature of the work, you will need to have a flexible approach to your working hours combined with a willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service where enhancements will be payable.

As a mobile operative who will be mostly lone working, a current full UK driving licence is an essential requirement for this role along with the ability to manage your own time, conform to Health and Safety requirements, and be able to work on your own initiative.
