We are the fourth largest local authority in Scotland, responsible for providing essential public services to the people of North Lanarkshire. The Finance and Technology service supports the delivery of the council’s priority outcomes to meet the challenging needs of our communities.

We are looking for confident and enthusiastic individuals with the determination to succeed, to join our Trainee Accountant Programme. The training programme takes approximately three years to complete and is designed to provide trainees with relevant training and experience in all aspects of the modern financial and accounting environment. Trainees will spend time working within the various Finance teams, learning the business from the ground up, so they can make an effective contribution in helping the Council deliver its services. We have been awarded Best Practice Employer accreditation for our Trainee Accountant Programme and are committed to supporting the successful applicant to progress through the CIPFA Professional Accountancy Qualification (PAQ).

You will be educated to Degree Level (or equivalent) or alternatively be fully AAT qualified and committed to pursuing a career within local government finance. You should also be numerically competent, enthusiastic, confident and outgoing. In addition, you will have the ability to research and analyse information, be able to prioritise and manage your workload and training commitments and have the ability to produce well-structured and logical written documentation. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, good communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative or within a team are all essential qualities.

Applicants should note that progression on the salary noted above is dependent on successful completion of the relevant stages of the CIPFA PAQ.

This is an initial 3-year training contract with the potential for a permanent position following successful progression and quality performance through the Trainee Programme.
