North Lanarkshire Council is passionate about Self Directed Support and getting it right for everyone in North Lanarkshire. This role is based within the area‑wide Younger Adults team in Motherwell and will lead on Self Directed Support, promoting social work values and maintaining best practice. The incumbent will implement the 3‑year SDS Improvement plan and support the council’s operating model.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the implementation of the 3‑year Self Directed Support (SDS) Improvement plan.
- Support the implementation of the council’s operating model and ensure services are delivered effectively.
- Ensure staff are aware of and operate within organisational policies, procedures, and national standards.
- Provide leadership, motivation, development and empowerment to staff at all levels and across partner agencies.
- Monitor and report on performance in Self Directed Support.
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a professional or academic qualification in Social Work or a relevant field.
- Have substantial experience working in an operational social work setting or equivalent.
- Have extensive experience in implementing and leading person‑centred assessment and planning.
- A relevant postgraduate or management qualification and previous experience as a people manager is desirable.
- Be registered or eligible for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
Other Requirements
- Must become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member through Disclosure Scotland and obtain a satisfactory membership check prior to commencing.
Contract and Working Pattern
- Temporary post contracted until 20/03/2028.
- Working pattern: Monday–Thursday 08:45 – 16:45, Friday 08:45 – 16:15.

- NLC12: £50,669 – £56,329.
