Business Support functions are essential in all industries, with business and administration needed in every sector. This 12-month modern apprenticeship will help you to understand how a business runs and gain a greater understanding of business administration and the important role that business support functions play in enabling organisations to operate efficiently and effectively. At North Lanarkshire Council we have four key services that play an important role in delivering for our communities, these are Education and Families, Enterprise and Communities, Adult Health and Social Care and our Chief Executives Office Corporate functions.

As part of this apprenticeship, you’ll undertake an SCQF Level 5 in Business & Administration. You’ll also gain valuable work experience in a business support function such as Finance, Accounts, Human Resources, Administration, Housing, Business Solutions or Customer Services within one of our services. This Apprenticeship would appeal to you if you’re interested in working in and pursuing a career in a business environment.

Placements are in the following areas:

  • Chief Executive Office- 4x Motherwell
  • Enterprise & Communities- 1x Motherwell
  • Education & Families- 1x Motherwell, 1x Wishaw

You don’t need to have any previous experience although having National 5 English is desirable. We look for Apprentices who can help us deliver our exciting ambition and plans for North Lanarkshire. During the selection process we’ll look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you’ll need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, be pro-active and show willingness to learn.

In accordance with Government Guidelines, you’ll need to be aged 16-24 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship) or if you are disabled or care experienced, you’ll need to be aged between 16-29 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship). Before you commence in this role, you may be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, depending on the placement location.

Working Patterns: Monday - Thursday: 08:45am - 16:45pm, Friday: 08:45am - 16:15pm. These positions are temporary until 20/08/2027. Please note interviews will take place on 27th and 28th May 2026.
